Working In or With the Public Sector: What You Need to Know!

This was a joint event with the Atkinson Public Management Association that featured two women that work in public sector positions (Susan Wilson - State of Oregon Human Resources Services Administrator and Lisa Joyce - State of Oregon Housing and Community Services Interagency Policy Strategist). They spoke about why they chose this career path, challenges they have faced along the way, and why we might be interested in working in this area.

NAWMBA National Conference: Stand Out - Making Your Entrepreneurial Spirit Work in a Corporate Environment

Four students from Atkinson (Amanda Hemmert, Sara Johnston, Terri Savage, and Janelle Yu) attended the National Association of Women MBAs Annual Conference (Nov. 4 - 5, 2005) which was held at Babson College, near Boston, Massachusetts. The conference was very good, and, as you can see, it was a great trip with lots of fun!

Three Atkinson alumni (Ann Jackson '84, Angela Mahoney '00, and Rebecca Schmoyer '00) spoke about how they juggled everything in their lives both at school and once they moved into the workforce and gave the group some tips they wished they had had back then.

Two women that have been heavily involved in new ventures (Judy Clark - President & Owner of HR Answers Inc. and Linda Weston - President and Executive Director of Oregon Entrepreneurs Forum) spoke about their experiences with entrepreneurship and how being a woman has affected those opportunities.

This was an event targeted at getting some new board members and to tell everyone about our next dinner/discussion event. Breakfast was served, free massages were given, and three gift cards to various places were raffled off.
